Why Can Babies Cry?
The crying of a child can be a source of insomnia, desolation and frustration for parents. In addition, it can appear at any time and adults are not sure what it is due to. If you wonder why babies can cry, we will tell you about it in the next article.
Why can babies cry: main reasons
We cannot stop our baby from crying. That’s your way of communicating when you don’t like something or you need something in particular. At first, it seems that all cries are the same; However, as the days and weeks go by, parents will realize that there are different ‘shades’ depending on what their babies want.
Undoubtedly, in the first days it seems impossible to calm him down because you don’t really know why he is crying. Do not worry, very soon you will be able to ‘guess’ his gestures, needs, signals and, above all, comfort and calm him in the appropriate way.
So why can babies cry? Here we tell you the main reasons:
1. Hunger
At birth, the child only thinks about one thing: eating. For this reason, in most cases, when he cries it is because he is hungry; especially at night, when you wake up startled and wanting to eat.
Likewise, there are other signs that can tell you that the little one is hungry before he starts crying. For example, if he’s fidgety, he puts his hands to his mouth, turns his head to the side when you stroke his cheek, sticks out his tongue, or smacks his lips.
2. Stomach problems
During the first weeks of life, colic is more than common. This happens when the digestive system is getting used to digesting milk and triggers diarrhea, gas, vomiting, etc.
If your baby starts crying after feeding, it may be due to a stomach ache, constipation, gas, or GERD. There are different techniques to alleviate these symptoms, such as putting him on his back and moving his legs as if he were pedaling a bicycle. Before medicating, consult your pediatrician.
Another reason babies may cry is that they need to burp. If your little one eats in a hurry, he will probably gulp air; when it finishes feeding, it should eject it.
3. Dirty diaper
It should not be very comfortable to walk in a dirty diaper through life. Some babies just relieve themselves by ‘telling’ the mother that they need to be changed and sanitized. Others may be more dirty and do not report the situation right away.
In either case, when the baby cries, you should take a look at the diaper and check that it is not very dirty. Remember that not changing it at the moment can cause eczema, irritation, redness or what is known as diaper rash.
4. Dream
Another reason babies cry is because they need to sleep. Although they spend a good part of the day resting, sometimes they want to fall asleep and cannot. And that irritates them greatly!
When their nap time comes, instead of falling asleep they become irritable and cry uncontrollably. It is that they need to comply with certain habits to sleep, such as being put to bed in the crib or being lulled.
5. Lack of attention
Babies love being pampered, held, sung to, and being able to feel protected and loved close to their parents’ chest. Perhaps crying is his way of asking to be paid more attention, to be lifted from the crib and to be caressed for a while.
Some say that this is spoiling the child; however, during the first months, the baby needs contact with the people who have given him life.
Of course, there are other reasons why babies may cry, such as being too warm and warm, or because the environment is colder than necessary. It could also be because something is bothering him, such as the tag on his coat or a toy very close to him.
If none of the above reasons are what started your baby crying, we recommend that you take him to the pediatrician for a checkup. It is the best way to prevent a simple annoyance from turning into something more serious.
